How to Earn Guardian Games Medals

Guardian Games is here and the class with the most medals wins. If you want your class to come out on top, you need to get out there and start earning medals!

The goal of Guardian Games is for each class to turn in as many medals as possible to win that day. The class with the most daily wins at the end of Guardian Games wins the event. So, if you’re participating in the event and you want your class to win (RIP Titans), you’ll need to focus on earning medals and turning them in.

We threw this quick guide together to teach you how to get Guardian Games medals.

Ways to Earn Medals during Guardian Games

You can start earning medals after you complete the initial quest, The Games Begin. With that out of the way, you’re free to start earning medal however you want to. Below are the ways to earn different medals.

Platinum Cards

Like the name implies, completing a Platinum Card will award you 1 Platinum Medal to be turned in at the podium.

There are two different types of Platinum Cards. One is for Nightfalls which can be completed by running the Nightfall Ordeal on any difficulty and the other is for Trials of Osiris. These cards come with random conditions that will help you earn progress towards their completion.

Some of these conditions include:

  • Get kills with a specific element
  • Get final blows with a specific weapon
  • Get final blows of any kind

They also have a secondary condition that will increase the progress of the other one. Some of these secondary conditions include:

  • Complete this activity faster
  • Complete this activity with fewer deaths
  • Completing this activity with more final blows

Given the current state of Trials, and how it’s only around for a few days each week, you’re honestly better off running Nightfalls to earn Platinum Medals during Guardian Games.

Also, be mindful that Platinum Cards cost 200 Laurels each. You can easily find yourself having to take a break if you aren’t getting laurels to drop.

Contender Cards

There are three types of Contender Cards built around each of the three core activities (Strikes / Crucible / Gambit). They can be completed in their respective activity and will award you with a Gold Medal upon successful completion.

And like Platinum Cards, the Contender Cards also come with random conditions to speed up their progress.

One thing to keep in mind is that you’ll probably need to run 2 – 3 matches to complete one of these cards. I’ve completed strikes with < 50% progress on a fresh Contender Card. This makes them fairly inefficient as a source for medals if you’re looking to help your class win Guardian Games.

Running Activities

Cards aren’t the only way to earn medals during Guardian Games. You can also earn them when you complete your core activities. However, you’ll only be able to collect silver and bronze medals.

  • Silver Medals: Complete a Nightfall, Survival (regular or Freelance), or Trials match
  • Bronze Medals: Complete a Strike, Crucible, or Gambit match

Triumphs

Certain triumphs will also award you with a medal for meeting their completion conditions. Curiously, taking part in the closing ceremony for Guardian Games will net you a gold medal, and completing all of the Guardian Games Triumphs will earn you a Platinum medal. After the Games are over. When turning in medals means nothing.

The Medal Case

Every medal you earn goes into your Medal Case which can be found on your Quests tab. Be sure to check this every so often since you can only carry so many medals at one time. If you earn a medal, but your Medal Case is full for that type of medal, it disappears. It won’t go to your postmaster or into your inventory. It’s just gone.

So be sure to stop by the Tower every now and then to turn in your medals!

It’s also important to remember that each medal is worth a different amount of points. With a little bit of math, you can figure out how to get the most points out of your playtime.

Guardian Game Medal Points

  • Bronze: 1 point
  • Silver: 2 points
  • Gold: 5 points
  • Platinum: 15 points

Recap

Guardian Games is a competition and the class with the most medals wins. If you want your class to win, you need to get out there and start earning medals!

Ways to Earn Medals

  • Platinum Medals: Complete a Nightfall or Trials Card
  • Gold Medals: Complete a Strike, Crucible, or Gambit Contender Card
  • Silver Medals: Complete a Nightfall, Survival (regular or Freelance), or Trials match
  • Bronze Medals: Complete a Strike, Crucible, or Gambit match

If you’re looking for the most efficient way to earn Guardian Games medals, I definitely recommend focusing all your efforts and laurels on Platinum Nightfall Cards. You can finish an Adept Nightfall (1230 power level) in roughly 10 minutes and your card should be completed too.
