Wolftone Draw God Rolls: New Arc Combat Bow

Learn what rolls you should keep an eye out for while you're grinding your Wolftone Draw god rolls!

Wolfstone Draw is an arc combat bow that was added to Destiny 2 during Season of the Lost. Seeing this bow should excite many Guardians because it’s one of the few weapons in the game that can roll with the latest weapon perks which makes for some interesting builds and playstyles.

And like Vulpecula, you can farm this weapon by decrypting Umbrals at the Prismatic Recaster using the the Wayfinder’s Accuracy engram. Doing this will give you at least one extra perk in the last two columns (possibly two!) making it that much easier for you to farm your Wolftone Draw god roll.

PvE God Roll for Wolftone Draw

Bows are one of the better, if not best, weapons to use in PvE since they can deal significant damage across a variety of ranges. The PvE playstyle here revolves around putting arrows downfield quickly and accurately so you can take advantage of the damage multiplier on precision hits.

  • First column: Agile Bowstring – Durable yet light bowstring. Greatly increases handling speed and slightly increases stability.
  • Second column: Helical Fletching – Aerodynamic and light. Slightly increases accuracy and stability.
  • Third column: Archer’s Tempo – Draw time decreases after every precision hit.
  • Fourth column: Frenzy – Being in combat for extended time increases damage, handling, and reload for this weapon until you are out of combat.
  • Honorable Mention #1: Demolitionist – Kills with this weapon generate grenade energy. Activating your grenade ability reloads this weapon from reserves.
  • Honorable Mention #2: Dragonfly – Precision kills create an elemental damage explosion.
  • Masterwork: Draw Time – Reduces draw time.
  • Weapon Mod: Targeting Adjuster – This weapon grants better target acquisition.

Now, some of you might be wondering why I didn’t choose Elastic String for this Wolftone Draw god roll and the answer is simple. Archer’s Tempo. With Archer’s Tempo up, the extra +20 charge time from Elastic String is absolutely negligible when you could get a great deal more stability and handling from the Agile Bowstring.

The name of the game with bows is snappiness. You want high accuracy, stability, and handling so you can make your shots count when they matter. The trade off for the nudge in draw time is more than worth it.

Frenzy

I gave Frenzy the edge here in the 4th column because it’s just a solid weapon perk that you’ll always benefit from. It has arguably more utility than Demolitionist and definitively more uptime than Adagio. The former only procs on kills which makes it useless if:

  • You don’t get the killing blow on an enemy
  • You aren’t running a grenade-centric build
  • You don’t have heavy / special and you need to DPS a boss

It basically ends up being a wasted weapon perk in these scenarios, and the reload on throwing a grenade is irrelevant on bows.

The same thing goes for Dragonfly with a Dragonfly spec mod. You should already be aiming for precision shots anyway since you’re using a bow. Landing them will turn your arrows into RPGs and decimate packs of enemies with a single arrow. Honestly, this turns your bow into a breach load grenade launcher that doesn’t use special ammo. However, it lacks a great deal of utility if you aren’t killing red bars.

That being said, it can take some time for Frenzy activate, but once it’s up, it can stay up for the rest of the encounter as long as you’re actively damaging enemies. This is much easier to do now that primary weapons have infinite ammo. If you can maintain your frenzy buff, Wolftone Draw will have a permanent 15 – 22% damage buff applied to it. That damage buff is compounded if you can keep hitting your precision shots to maintain Archer’s Tempo as well.

Archer’s Tempo and Frenzy weapon perks have amazing synergy and will really turn Wolftone Draw into a surprisingly amazing bow.

PvP God Roll for Wolftone Draw

PvP god rolls usually revolve around having a reload perk and a damage perk whether it’s Outlaw / Rampage, Rapid Hit / Kill Clip, or Feeding Frenzy / Multikill Clip. However, bows are a little bit different since they’re a high skill cap weapon. You’ll realistically want something that suits your playstyle the most. Below is an overall PvP god roll that suits Wolftone Draw rather well.

  • First column: Elastic Drawstring – Excellent snapback. Decreases accuracy, faster draw time, and slightly increases handling speed.
  • Second column: Compact Arrow Shaft – Thinner arrows to increase nocking speed and weapon handling. Increases handling speed and reload speed.
  • Third column: Sneak Bow – Increases hold time and reload speed, and prevents radar pings from shooting while crouched.
  • Fourth column: Adagio – After defeating a target, this weapon fires, charges, or draws more slowly and deals increased damage for a brief time.
  • Honorable Mention: Harmony – Final blows with other weapons improve this weapon’s damage and performance for a short duration.
  • Masterwork: Draw Time – Reduces draw time.
  • Weapon Mod: Targeting Adjuster – This weapon grants better target acquisition.

This combination of weapon perks is rather straight forward. Elastic Drawstring, Compact Arrow Shaft, and the Draw Time masterwork work together to improve both Wolftone Draw’s nocking speed and draw time. This speeds up how quickly you can put arrows downfield into enemy Guardians. Bows are unforgiving in the Crucible. They’re high risk, high reward and every millisecond counts.

Archer’s Tempo vs. Sneak Bow

You would normally see Archer’s Tempo in the 3rd column like you did with our PvE god roll. However, the most effective playstyle in the Crucible is to hit a precision shot with your bow and quick swap to an SMG / hand cannon / sidearm to secure the bag.

You’re really only going to send multiple arrows downfield if you’re operating at a significant range or you have multiple targets. However, if you have multiple targets, you’re at a severe disadvantage and should disengage.

Because of this, you’ll get limited use out of Archer’s Tempo and since it only has a 3 second duration. This isn’t long enough to carry it to a second engagement.

Sneak bow, on the other hand, has 100% uptime and some great utility. Being able to hold your shot longer will prevent you from being caught without an arrow nocked and let you pick your shots better without being rushed. Not pinging the radar is just the icing on an already delicious cake.

Adagio vs. Harmony

Adagio really cranks the damage up on bows. It currently gives a 20% damage buff when it’s procced which could possibly one shot low resilience Guardians, but we need to test that to confirm. Regardless, you’ll find yourself getting a lot of clean up kills in the Crucible which will help you get the most out of Adagio’s damage buff.

With that said, there is a sleeper perk that isn’t getting a lot of notice right now and that’s Harmony. If your playstyle in the Crucible is similar to the one we mentioned above, you’re going to get more usage out of Harmony than Adagio. The latter procs from killing blows with the weapon it’s on where the former procs on killing blows on other weapons.

This would buff the damage on the bow making it hit harder which would in turn make it even easier to get the clean up with your other weapon. The symbiotic relationship will prove quite deadly in the right hands.
